This new publication is dedicated to the world's largest urban agglomerations. GEOSPACE Austria - in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA) - presents the world's major cities from a bird's perspective.
42 Megacities worldwide are displayed by fascinating satellite imagery of various types. The development of these large urban areas in the past two to three decades, their socio-economic and political situations, the problems these cities are facing, and tendencies (the process of globalisation), etc. are described in the texts.
The unique approach to the megacities is based on high-technology colourful satellite images with a resolution ranging from 30 meters down to one meter. This allows to depict urban areas in their geographical environment as well as to concentrate on certain "hot spots" (districts or even monuments). The images are combined with aerial and ground photographs and with a critical description by authors who are living in these cities or work on urbanisation or the "socio-economic perspective".
